Introductions
I suppose it helps to begin with who I am.
If I may, allow me a few words about myself…..
My name is Hal. Not anything wild or plain, but simply Hal. I grew up in a large city (which you will learn about through my story). In 1998, I relocated to live with my father in a city 2 hours north and on the border of 2 states. I could tell you all my hardships here, but I’d much rather let it unfold a different way.
I’m in my mid-30’s, I’ve worked in Human Resources among other industries. I’ve always considered HR to be something akin to “Corporate Ministry.” A good HR person while being able to administer many systems and benefits is, above all, a servant to the staff they support. I’m not some wild great innovator in my field, on the cutting edge of creating some new fad in the business world, by any means. However, I enjoy doing what I do. I love being able to help, support and serve my staff.
I’m also an Episcopalian. Many of you may wonder what that is. In short, it’s a denomination of Christianity that I find to truly strive towards love of all and inclusivity of others around, without the hellfire & brimstone. They ordain all sorts of folk, including women and gay people. They believe in marriage for all persons. This I find to be such a rare thing in the church. Which leads me to my next point…..
I’m also gay. I’ve been out for 18 years and I have spent many years of my life trying to understand who I am and how all of this fits in with God. my 20’s were lost in trying to reconcile myself and God. I couldn’t help who I loved and found to be beautiful, but I was told God didn’t like such things. I was an abomination. However, I later learned and came to the conclusion that is completely off the mark.
So come with me. Be a part of the journey I am on and see what wonderful things I strive to see in the world. See that we are still called to be in the broken world loving others. This blog will contains meditations from my heart, fragments of my story as they unfold, poetry and ultimately a testimony how I was called to serve a greater purpose in this world. To be with others in the dark and broken places of the world.
I hope you will journey with me.
